\u00a0National recognition? \u00a0OMG! \u00a0That&#8217;s really kinda scary and I was always grateful the public soap circle was considered &#8220;small.&#8221; \u00a0I could still go into a subway and not really be recognized except by a devoted few. \u00a0My mom in Texas felt she could keep an eye on me as I came into her living room each week; the dad I never knew actually wanted to meet me; and, my character, &#8220;Katie,&#8221; was well-loved so public encounters were more fun than freaky.<\/p>\n<p>Taking responsibility is a grown-up thing. \u00a0Only the hind sight of maturity illuminates how random choices have played such a powerful role in shaping one&#8217;s destiny. \u00a0However, random always worked for me &#8212; especially if the proposed action <em>felt<\/em> right at the time. \u00a0Is this the man of my dreams? \u00a0I didn&#8217;t really know at the time, but everything <em>felt<\/em> right and after 40 years? \u00a0Yeah. \u00a0I was lucky. \u00a0Did I choose to be a soap star? \u00a0No. \u00a0I got sent in by a commercial agent on a TV audition and booked the job. \u00a0I was as shocked as everyone else that my character, &#8220;Katie,&#8221; stuck around so long. \u00a0And it <em>felt<\/em> right.<\/p>\n<p>Then this Alice fell down the rabbit hole.<\/p>\n<p>How does one handle getting tripped up; or pushed back; or &#8220;shelved?&#8221; \u00a0Interesting podcast from &#8220;The Work&#8221; by Bonnie Gillespie: \u00a0http:\/\/podcastingthework.com\/feed\/ep0313.mp3<\/p>\n<p>My advice? \u00a0Keep doing the work. \u00a0Dancer discipline.<\/p>\n<p>And if you, too, are interested in doing the work, I suggest you visit Bonnie Gillespie&#8217;s &#8220;The Work&#8221; podcasts more often: \u00a0https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/the-work\/id420337807<\/p>\n<p>Episode o609 &#8220;One More Time&#8221; resonates rather loud right now.<\/p>\n<p>Keep doing the work. \u00a0Dancer discipline.<\/p>\n<p>Episode 0607 &#8220;Age Range&#8221; &#8211; still figuring that one out.<\/p>\n<p>Keep doing the work.<\/p>\n<p>Episode 0606 &#8220;The Revolution&#8221; &#8211; Yeah, I actually consider myself a pioneer these days. \u00a0Social media. \u00a0Blogs. \u00a0Putting myself on a new kinda (chorus?) line to chart the results. \u00a0I&#8217;ve already discovered the rabbit hole isn&#8217;t as dark as I once thought. \u00a0Embrace the change . . .<\/p>\n<p>Episode 0601 &#8220;What If vs What Is&#8221; &#8211; Being aware with the ability to dream . . .<\/p>\n<p>OMG! \u00a0Just went to see Gigi on Broadway &#8212; wow what a cast; what a score; what wonderful characters to play on that stage! \u00a0I&#8217;d give eye teeth to be Dee Hoty right now who&#8217;s played almost every role I&#8217;ve longed to play &#8212; even &#8220;<em>Phyllis&#8221;<\/em> in Follies! \u00a0I used to watch Alexis Smith, the original Follies&#8217; &#8220;<em>Phyllis<\/em>,&#8221; from the wings singing <em>Leave You <\/em>every night &#8212; again, waaaay too young at the time to even think about doing that role. \u00a0Now?
