“Katie” Grows Up!

Katie Parker - Guiding LightWelcome to my first blog post!  After over 30 years in show business — with a few detours along the way — I’m now back to being able to fully focus on my own career once again.  As any mother knows, once you have children, YOU are no longer important.  It’s all about providing for and protecting your children.  I would never change that choice . . . but I am equally pleased that both my daughters are now fabulous, intelligent, healthy, beautiful young adults with their own lives/desires/challenges.  Steve and I survived the many trials of long-term relationships and we are thriving as we continue to develop our creative passions.

Follow this blog if you’re interested in my journey through the many land mines that are planted along the way in this business called “show.”

Just for the record, I LOVED being a soap opera “star.”  But truth be told, I never expected to make such a mark in daytime.  I didn’t!  I did my job as an actor.  YOU, the fans, kept me there.  Both my children were born under the national public umbrella of “fans.”  But I have to say, I was very, very glad the fish bowl was small.  Our soap fans were wonderful friends & supported all our “Guiding Light” cast with their various acting endeavors as much as someone would who was considered “family.”  My children, to this day, receive birthday greetings from fans they never met!  I can only hope both my girls are gracious enough to say “thank you.”  I know I thank each and every one of you who lived thru the national birthing of the fabulous friends I call my daughters.

Now?  We’re into a new chapter.  I have no idea where it will lead, but I do hope you follow my journey.  I hope to prove that “luck” is when “opportunity” meets “preparation.”  I have had a very “lucky” life.  But I’ve also worked hard to prepare for the opportunity.  Over time I’ve learned that WE are each the writers in our own lives.  WE are in control.  Our thoughts create our words which create our choices and the reality of our lives.

My message to anyone reading this blog is to walk through this life — your life — without fear.   Walk in joy and enthusiasm.  Be in the moment and relish whatever comes your way . . . thru adversity, you just become stronger.  Know that.  Know you can survive any challenge and be stronger for the lesson.  And don’t forget to enjoy and cherish the good times.  I knew that while working on The Guiding Light.  I knew I was blessed.  I knew I was charting new territory and I was grateful to do and be the best I could be in that new environment.  I thank the many friends, fans & power people who supported me along the way — whomever you may be.
